Course Description & Objectives: 
  1. The Course is divided into two sections. The first section focuses on the nature of broadcasting; its merits and demerits, historical perspectives as well as the various world broadcast systems. The second section introduces students to the basics of programme production.
  2. The Course is designed to introduce second – year Mass Communication students to the concept of broadcasting and its various aspects. Specifically, emphasis is on the electronic media. It revisits the historical perspectives of the industry and reviews the new developments of liberalization, deregulation and commercialization. Further, the course prepares students for third – year broadcast production classes: Radio and Television Production.  Therefore, at the end of the course, students will have an understanding of theoretical perspectives underpinning the broadcasting industry, as well as its practical operations.
