Course Description & Objectives:

The course examines Kiswahili literary masterpieces and gives a historical background of some of the works and their contribution to the development to the current pieces. Students are also given an opportunity to compare classic and contemporary literary works especially on style, form and themes.

Learning Outcomes:

appreciate examples of classic literature in terms language, form and meaning
describe how classic literary works have contributed to the development of

contemporary Kiswahili literature

evaluate appropriateness of contemporary Kiswahili literary works in relation

to classic literature studied
