Course Description & Objectives: 

The course exposes students to a wide range of Literary Theory from Classical times to the beginning of the twentieth century.  It is built around the statements of leading literary critics from Plato to Leo Tolstoy.  Students are encouraged to develop their own value judgments to Literary works, bearing in mind that no single Literary Theory is absolute; and that there are no 'correct' or 'incorrect' theories.
