Course Description & Objectives: 
  • Course is designed to enable students understand the media’s role in fostering democratic rule and observance of human rights with special focus on the developing countries; discussion of the different interpretations of democracy; place of civic journalism and community media; media’s role in ensuring accountability and transparency in public institutions; issues related to special interest groups like women, children, disabled and minority groups; the work of central government, districts, decentralization system and the role of NGOs.
