Course Description & Objectives: 

The course explores the history of the media and their role in the political history of Uganda. Students learn about: important themes and milestones in the history of Uganda; the historical development of the media; historical relationship between politics and the media; economic liberalisation and the advent of private and commercial media; key figures and moments in media/journalism history; selected African and global case studies in the history of journalism and the media.

Learning Outcomes: 

By the end of the course, the learner should be able to:1.  Explain the historical development of the media from the printing press to the Internet and social media.2.  Relate global and regional trends in the development of the media to media development trends in Uganda.3.  Identify  linkages  between  landmark  political  developments  and  the historical development of the media in Uganda.
