Course Description & Objectives:

The course describes interventions in post emergency, recovery and rehabilitation phase of emergencies and disasters. The post emergency and rehabilitation phases culminate into peace building and disaster risk reduction and mitigation. The course presents and discusses these key post emergency and disaster phases to enable the students understand the sequence and the demands of the interventions that are imperative to re-settling and/or repatriation of the affected community. The emergency to development continuum will be addressed. Objective ;

To enable the students to examine the post emergency and disaster phases so as to understand the sequence and the demands of the interventions that are imperative to re-settling and or repatriation of the affected community

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of the course, the student should be able to:

Identify the typical phases or spectrum of emergencies and disaster
Describe phase specific interventions undertaken during various phases of emergencies and disasters, including recovery and rehabilitation
Describe the approaches for re-organising health services in the post emergency and disaster era
Explain the role of the community in post- emergency and disaster settings
Examine the resource demands and logistics management in the post- emergency and disaster era
Discuss coordination of responses in the post- emergency and disaster era
Discuss the risk reduction strategies during disaster phases including emergency, recovery and rehabilitation phases
