Course Description & Objectives: 

A thorough understanding of the foundations of Family Medicine and the concept of the family as the unit currency of the community and how the family health or ill health has a direct effect on the health of the community will be expected. Family Medicine is a person-centred discipline as opposed to pathology-centred disciplines. A deep understanding of the management of the health of members of a family in a holistic manner will be expected.A framework for analysing or studying communities will be developed in line with a competent community conceptThe Public Health Act will be discussed, the Local government Act and intersectoral collaboration and teamwork will be emphasized as necessary for organized health service deliveries.Health promotion and disease prevention strategies and practices will be discussed.
