Course Description & Objectives:
By the end of the course the candidate should be in a position to manage minor psychiatric illnesses and psychosomatic disorders and should know when to ask for specialised psychiatric interventions.Psychiatry lectures include:
- introduction to mental health
- psychiatric interviewing and examination
- investigating mental disorders (EEG interpretation)
- organic mental disorders
- functional psychoses
- psychoneuroses
- personality disorders
- psychosexual disorders
- psychosomatic disorders
- child and adolescent psychiatry
- sleep disorders
- Anti-depressants
- anxiolytics and neuroleptics
- prescribing psychoactive drugs
- other care/ management options is covered
- The students receive extensive clinical exposure to and discussion of patients with mental illnesses
- The student rotate in psychiatry wards for 6 weeks
