Course Description & Objectives:
This course is designed to train students in the art and science of writing for publication. It will deal with the art of academic thinking, good reading and scientific writing. It will deal with the theory and practice of editing and peer reviewing. There will be special focus in identifying LIS journals and publishing in them. The course will also cover open access publishing, commercialization and joint authorship. Kraph (1918) noted, “I have never known a person who perfects writing by merely talking about it”. Objective:
- To facilitate an understanding of the importance of writing and publishing research results
- To facilitate knowledge of one’s niche, the audience, purpose, timing and medium of academic communication
- To provide hands-on experience on writing a journal article for publication
- To examine the different publishing processes (knowing the editor, the journal, yourself-writer’s audit) required for a publication to come out
- To assist candidates in developing a psyche for the academic obligation to publish research
