Course Description & Objectives: 

This course is designed for the study of contemporary theory and grounded knowledge of practices in the teaching of language and literature.  It is aimed at ensuring learners’ understanding of (i) the knowledge underpinning teaching methodologies and (ii) the value of selected methodology.  The course involves both theoretical and practical sessions, the latter requiring students to conduct classes to demonstrate choices of methodology based on selected theories and guided by context. 

Learning Outcomes: 

Learners will be able to:

  1. analyse theoretical considerations that influence teachers’ methods anywhere; 
  2. critique common and other arguments for and against various methodologies;
  3. apply their understanding of the strengths of effective methodologies in language and literature classrooms, and
  4. demonstrate a sound mix of methodologies for effective teaching.
