Course Description & Objectives: 
  1. The concept of waste, types/classification of wastes (organic, inorganic, hazardous wastes), sources of wastes: Household, industrial, commercial, agricultural, institutional etc. Solid and liquid wastes.
  2. Urbanization and waste generation, minimization of waste generation and the cleaner technology.
  3. Waste management processes: storage, transportation, treatment and disposal of wastes. Wastes management practices: Recycling, composting, land fills, incineration, reuse etc and their impact on the environment> Trade in wastes.
  4. The role of governments, the public, local communities, NGOS private sector in waste management.
  5. ICT and waste management
