Objectives:
- Students should demonstrate the knowledge, skills and attitudes to enable them to diagnose, assess and treat acquired neurological disorders – including: dysarthria, verbal apraxia / dyspraxia, aphasia / dysphasia and dysphagia (in children and adults)
Content:
- Causes, clinical presentation and prevention of acquired neurological communication disorders in children and adults
- Neurological/medical implications and potential impact on communication/swallowing
- Definitions of communication and swallowing disorders
- Assessment and intervention
- Theories of assisted recovery of language function and rehabilitation
- Treatment/management of acquired neurological communication/swallowing disorders
- Liaison with other professionals
