Course Description & Objectives: 
  • Appreciation of the holistic approach to patient care and management. 
  • Effect of demographic, social, family, environmental, psychological and emotional factors in disease.
  • Role of the family in patient care. 
  • The terminally ill patient and pain relief in terminal disease, counselling a patient and family in case of cancer, HIV, non-curable neurological disease etc.
  • Resuscitation of a patient. 
  • Decision making in unresuscitable patients, stopping life support.
  • Social factors in medicine, refusing physicians advice like in blood transfusion, bereavement, the dying patient. 
  • Handling unrealistic/unfeasible patient and relative demands.
  • Handling VIPs and the very rich, private patients.
  • Improved skills in teaching the art and science of internal medicine.
Learning Outcomes: 

By the end of the course the candidate should have a solid foundation of general medicine and geo-medicine.  This should include unusual and extraordinary diseases and procedures.
