Course Description & Objectives: 

The course enables students to understand the ecology of insect pests of trees common in the tropics. Students understand insect population dynamics. An understanding of the insect pest management, preventive and control strategies and the economic effects of insect pest infestation is provided. Students acquire the knowledge and skills of integrated pest management in natural forest, agroforestry and on-farm settings.

Learning Outcomes: 
  • Students ably identify and diagnose insect pests and infested tree species in tropical natural forest, agroforestry and on-farm settings.
  • Students make decisions on appropriate management and control methods for various insect pest problems in forestry.
  • Students develop and implement insect pest and/or Forest entomological research and monitoring systems
