Objectives:
- Students should show understanding of the intervention cycle, in particular, the basic concept of therapy and the generic skills needed by a speech and language therapist when working across a range of impairment and disability types.
Content:
- Introduction to the subject and the Intervention cycle
- Defining therapy, components of the therapeutic relationship & relevant terminology
- Models of service delivery
- Approaches to therapy and methods of intervention
- The therapy plan: identifying & prioritizing needs and expectations, setting aims and objectives, therapy tasks, rationale, monitoring and evaluation
- Methods of documentation, writing reports and referral letters
- Teamwork, collaboration and professional behaviour in
- The HSC Code of conduct and ethics for health workers (Ministry of Health – Uganda) and its relevance to speech and language therapy
