Course Description & Objectives: 

Objectives:

  • Students should show understanding of the intervention cycle, in particular, the basic concept of therapy and the generic skills needed by a speech and language therapist when working across a range of impairment and disability types.

Content:

  • Introduction to the subject and the Intervention cycle
  • Defining therapy, components of the therapeutic relationship & relevant terminology
  • Models of service delivery
  • Approaches to therapy and methods of intervention
  • The therapy plan: identifying & prioritizing needs and expectations, setting aims and objectives, therapy tasks, rationale, monitoring and evaluation
  • Methods of documentation, writing reports and referral letters        
  • Teamwork, collaboration and professional behaviour in
  • The HSC Code of conduct and ethics for health workers (Ministry of Health – Uganda) and its relevance to speech and language therapy
