Course Description & Objectives: 

The student shall rotate through a Level II Health Centre and practice integrated medical care especially preventive and health promotion.Objectives:Knowledge and management·         Management of an outbreak of common infectious diseases.·         Demonstrate basic knowledge of population statistics.·         Understand principles of disease prevention·         Study practical aspects of setting up a delivery system in a vaccination programme.Skills·         Visit one health centre and five dispensaries with the community health team.  Investigate problems of personnel, equipment, buildings, medicines, sanitation and community relations.·         Visit a community pharmacy project (Bamako type) or community based health care scheme.·         Observe an MCH clinic run by nurses·         Visit a community water project·         Visit a community based distribution programme for family planning. This is a practical course. The student shall be attached to a health Centre II where s/he will learn how to manage resources at a small health facility. Any patients referred from this HC II to Mulago will make the student the first line of contact in the hospital. Progressive and summative examination in the form of OSCEs and an oral examination based on the student’s logbook of cases seen at the health facility will be conducted at the end of the course.
