Course Description & Objectives: 

This will be an elective period.  The student will choose four, 2 week, rotations from the following units:

  1. Neurosurgery,
  2. Intensive Care,
  3. Cancer Institute,
  4. Oral Surgery Oral and maxillofacial surgery Basic science principles and management principles of maxillofacial diseases.
  5. Problems of maxillofacial trauma.
  6. Plastic and reconstructive surgery,
  7. Ophthalmology,
  8. Accident and Emergency Surgery,
  9. Cardiothoracic
  10. Surgery and Hospice, Uganda. Experience in Mulago hospital
Learning Outcomes: 

By the end of this rotation the student should able to:

  1. Appreciate palliative medicine and palliative care which is an established science yet knowledge and competence by health workers is assumed but with no formal training at undergraduate, postgraduate or any other level in the established in curricula of health training institutions including the faculty of Medicine at Makerere.
  2. Manage the many patients in Head and Neck Surgery practice with chronic and terminal illness.
  3. Learn more about palliative medicine and palliative care.
  4. Learn the concept of holistic approach to treatment.
  5. Understand palliative medicine / care.
  6. Diagnose patients to treatment
  7. Will
  8. Dying declaration
  9. Euthanasia etc.
