Course Description & Objectives: 

The course introduces the learner to a critical analysis of the rationale, opportunities and implications of environmental law and the land bill on the sustainable utilization of natural resources and development.  In addition, it reviews the legal framework for environmental management in Uganda.  The course covers the major aspects of environmental legislation and relates the principles of common law to environmental management.  

Learning Outcomes: 

By the end of the course, learners should be able to:

  • Analyze the relationship between environmental ethics, laws and policies.
  • Establish the significance of appropriate laws and policies on the status of the environment and on sustainable development.
  • Recall laws governing, the use of land and other natural resources, and the disposal of environmentally unfriendly products.
  • Take legal action on an environmental problem when and where appropriate.
