Course Description & Objectives: 

This course is intended to equip the graduate trainee with knowledge and skills necessary for the conduct and analysis of research studies, and in evidence synthesis as applied to healthcare. 

Learning Outcomes: 

After completion of this module, the graduate should be able:

  • To apply basic principles and practice of epidemiology and research methodology 
  • To apply the statistical methods used in analysis of clinical and population-based studies
  • To critically appraise published reports and papers in the field of healthcare in order to generate credible evidence in healthcare
  • To conceptualize and develop a research proposal through to submission for approval by Institutional Review Boards/Research and Ethics Committees
  • To undertake clinical or population-based research to identify and address problems in the use of medicines and in the provision of healthcare, or to establish the efficacy and effectiveness of interventions in health
