Course Description & Objectives: 

This is a comprehensive course that teaches students what a field geologist is required or expected to do right from the planning stage through the fieldwork campaign to delivery of a complete, clear final report at the end of a project. It also introduces the student to the basic surveying instruments and techniques.  

Learning Outcomes: 

At the end of the course students should be able to:

  • Identify the different rock types from their field relationships during mapping.
  • Use different methods and equipment for collecting geologic data.
  • Describe and distinguish between different rock structures.
  • Carry out proper collection, analysis and interpretation of geologic field data.
  • Apply the basic mapping and surveying techniques.
  • Appreciate and use different methods and equipment for collecting survey data.
