Course Description & Objectives: 

This course is designed to suit teachers and other officers of non-medical background.  It exposes the learner to the concept of Health and Health education, the rationale for Health education, the Health Education issues in schools and communities. Policy in Uganda, major communicable and non-communicable diseases in Uganda and how to prevent them, nutritional disorders, effects of smoking and drugs on health and practical activities.  

Learning Outcomes: 

By the end of the course the leaner will be expected to:

  • Define what is meant by the term health and Health education
  • Give the rationale for Health Education.
  • Give the rationale and describe the key concepts of Primary Health Care (PHC).
  • Analyze the major health issues in schools and communities
  • Critically analyze strategies for implementation of Health Education in schools and communities.
