Course Description & Objectives: 

This course introduces students to the concepts of Primary Health Care, the health care system and organization of the community. Activities will include over view lectures, tutorials and activities at Primary Health Care facilities and in the community.The  aim  of  the  course  is  to  sensitize  students  to  the  health  care  needs  of  the  community  and  to acclimatize them to living in the communities within which they will work.

Learning Outcomes: 

A- Primary Health Care•    History,  Principles,  elements,  Minimum  Health Package  – including  the oral health package, priority health problems in Uganda, determinants of health, essential drugs concept•    Health Education and Health promotion•    National health policy and Health sector strategic plan•    Health care delivery systems•    Planning and budgeting procurements•    Resources management – including human resources•    Description  of  structured  organization  and  resources  of  a  community  –  concept,  structure, dynamics, organizing community for action for health•    Health  systems  management  –  concepts  of  organizations  and  systems,  understanding leadership and management•    Decentralization of the health sector
