Course Description & Objectives:

This course introduces modelling of practical problems using linear mathematical methods. Solutions to the linear models are sought using geometrical methods and the simplex algorithm. Response of the solution to small perturbation is analysed.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the course, students should be able to:

  • formulate linear models from a given problem
  • solve a two variable problem using geometrical methods
  • demonstrate knowledge of the constraint set
  • solve the problem using the simplex method
  • solve problems using dual simplex and the primal dual methods
  • analyse the solution to the problem for sensitivity
