Course Description & Objectives: 
  • Safety in molecular laboratories, Medicine in molecular laboratories, Tissue culture practice, Biological inhibitors and preservatives and relevant enzyme assays.
  • Laboratory instrumentation for molecular biology, Relevant Buffers and reagents, Handling of Proteins & nucleic acids.
  • Selected Molecular Biology Techniques: Practical aspects of Specialized procedures & techniques including Protein and DNA extraction., Relevant chromatographic, spectrophotometric, spectrofluorimetric and electrophoresis attributes; qualitative & preparative centrifugation, autoradiography. DNA & Protein blotting (Southern, Northern, Western & Eastern blotting), Protein & nucleic Acid Qualitation methods. PCR expression systems. Biological inhibitors and preservatives and relevant enzyme assays.
  • Tissue Cultures: Practical aspects of cell and tissue cultures including animal sera and media preparation, antibiotics use, sterile working. Preparation of antisera and Test systems for Antibody and Antigen precipitation. Isolation of mouse embryo fibroblasts and preparation of stabilates of feeder layer cells. Preparation of whole chicken embryo cell cultures. Cryopreservation of cell stabilates. Feeder layer viability assay.
