Course Description & Objectives: 

Oral Maxillofacial surgeons play a major role in reconstructing patients following ablative surgery forhead and neck malignancy as well as for post traumatic deformity. Frequently this may include free tissue transfer and microsurgical vascular anastomoses. This courses introduces the trainees to the principles and techniques needed for reconstruction. 

Learning Outcomes: 

At the end of the course,tudents will attain knowledge on:

  • Plastic surgery; principles of wound management.  Techniques of excision and debridement.  Closure of wounds and antibiotics in wound management.  Bites, Tetanus and gas gangrene prophylaxis. Fluid   management, nutrition. Skin grafting. .  The principles of wound cover, free grafting and flaps.  Repair of head and neck defects, acquired and congenital.  Flaps used in head and neck repair; Forehead flap, deltopectoral flap, serratus anterior flap, pectoralis major flap. Management of cleft disorders.  Principles of rhinoplasty, facelift, and facial nerve repair.  Management of keloids The management of burns
