Course Description & Objectives: 

This course introduces students to properties of porous media such as rocks and fluid flow through rocks, velocity dispersion and attenuation and their applications. 

Learning Outcomes: 

By the end of the course, the student should be able to:

  • Relate properties of porous media to fluid flow in rocks.
  • Use the wave equation to determine fluid velocity in rocks.
  • Determine hydrocarbon fluid properties.
  • Apply the principles of seismic rock physics to exploration of oil.
