Course Description & Objectives: 

Brief introduction of biochemistry, Enzymology: overview of enzymes, properties of enzymes, classification and nomenclature of enzymes, factors affecting enzyme activity, enzyme kinetics, enzyme inhibition; Metabolism and bioenergetics: Introduction and definitions, laws of thermodynamics (1st and second law), metabolism and metabolic control mechanisms of carbohydrates, lipids, proteins and amino acids, nucleic acids, vitamins and minerals.

  1. To equip students knowledge on enzymes mechanisms and how such mechanisms affect metabolism
