Course Description & Objectives: 

The course shall teach the principles of forensic psychiatry, how to do a forensic psychiatric examination, write in a forensic psychiatric report, and the psychiatrist’s role in a court of law.  The course shall teach about the disposal of personal estates, the law and mental health, The Mental Health Act, and The Penal Code, incapacity to give consent to receive treatment and legal implications of this for medical and psychiatric care.  Psychiatric ethics and the rights of patients will be addressed including the use of the Istanbul Protocol in medico-legal assessments of traumatised patients. General aspects of the course shall include organisation, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of forensic psychiatric service programmes.  Training, research and the management in forensic psychiatry will be an integral component of the course.
