Course Description & Objectives: 
  • This course covers diagnostic investigations in haematology, anaemias, leukemias and coagulation disorders.
  • The theory of oncogenesis, lymphomas, sarcomas, paraneoplastic syndromes and cancer chemotherapy and radiotherapy is covered.
  • Practical sessions expose the students to the interpretation of slide specimens of haematologic disorders.
  • Students is required to rotate through the Uganda Cancer Institute for a period of 4 weeks

 

Learning Outcomes: 

By the end of the course the candidate should be able to recognize potential malignant diseases and initiate the appropriate diagnostic measures.  He should be able to channel the patients into the most appropriate therapy such as surgery, radio-therapy or chemo-therapy or combination of the above.
