Course Description & Objectives: 

Overview of the concept of programme planning and the programme development process. Based on the programme development (or ‘project’) cycle the course focuses on practical training of students to develop their skills in conducting situational analysis, developing programme objectives, developing work/action plans and monitoring and evaluating programme activities. The course emphasizes participatory approaches to programme planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                Objective:

  •  To develop students’ capacity to plan, implement, monitor and evaluate extension and/or educational and related programmes/projects in agricultural and rural development efforts.
Learning Outcomes: 

By the end of this course students should be able to: 

  • Understand the programme planning and development process and its relevance to planned change interventions
  • Appreciate the concept of participation in development intervention and its relevance to empowerment of target communities
  • Understand the different approaches (conventional vs. participatory) to programme planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation
