Course Description & Objectives: 

This course deals with the detailed geologic aspects of the different rock systems of the Eastern region of Africa including Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda and the democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The geologic systems are discussed in terms of their genesis, lithology, structure, stratigraphy, age, metamorphism and mineralisation. 

Learning Outcomes: 

At the end of the course students should be able to: 

  • Describe the geology of the region in detail.
  • Make comparisons of the geology of the region and the world.
  • Describe the economic potential of the different countries of the East African region based on available geologic resources.
