Course Description & Objectives: 

This course is offered to second year undergraduate physics majors, in the Bachelor of Science programme of Makerere University

Learning Outcomes: 

At the end of the course the student should be able to:

  • Identify the different crystal structures;
  • Derive Bragg’s law and use it to index powder diffraction lines;
  • Use Einstein’s and Debye’s models to analyze lattice structures.
  • Explain thermal, dielectric and mechanical properties of solids.
