Under nutrition and hunger are widespread in many developing countries affecting millions of people, particularly those in sub Saharan Africa. Management of chronic diet related diseases resulting from over nutrition and nutritional imbalances is also an emerging challenge. Inadequate nutrition results in physical disability, increased vulnerability to diseases and ill health, diminished educational prospects, mental retardation, reduced economic contribution and early death. All these, singly or in combination, hamper countries' overall national growth and development.
