Course Description & Objectives: 

This course is to give knowledge to the final year Animal option students which will enable them clearly understand the nutritional concepts determining how ruminants feed and handle the consumed feed, the digestive differences between ruminants and non-ruminants and how ruminants derive nutrients from the different feeds they feed on.

Learning Outcomes: 
  • provide the students with theoretical background about forage utilization in ruminants.
  • enable the students understand the various aspects of feeds/forages and animal factors under advanced ruminant nutrition.
  • enable students appreciate the practical farming conditions under Ugandan conditions during visitation of farms.
