This course introduces students to the process and techniques of land use planning. The course will begin with an overview of alternative models of the planning process followed by a review of techniques for land use planning including economic impact assessment, benefit-cost, multiple accounts evaluation, land suitability analysis, implementation methods, and process design. The course also covers the ecological, economic, and legal principles applied to land use planning in relation to agricultural, industrial, residential, wild land, forestry, recreational, and transportation needs. It also covers the legal concepts and the policy frameworks in place for land use planning in Uganda. Case studies and group exercises are used to illustrate the methods and approaches.
