Course Description & Objectives: 

Overview of the concept of communication and the communication process. Focuses on communicating agricultural information through the press/media and technical/professional publications targeting mass audiences: Concept/meaning and importance of agricultural communication vs. agricultural journalism; Types of mass media (conventional vs. modern media: new ICTs);                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    Objective :

  • To enable students understand the role of (mass) media in communicating agricultural information and build their capacity in designing effective agricultural (extension) messages for relevant mass audiences and selecting and using appropriate media

 

Learning Outcomes: 

By the end of this course students should be able to:

  • Understand the concept and relevance of agricultural communication as an important strategy in communicating agricultural/extension messages
  • Write and communicate agricultural information/extension messages to relevant mass audiences effectively via appropriate (mass) media (i.e. news papers, radio, TV; including farm/home radio and TV programmes; media forums) and extension publications (e.g.  magazines, pamphlets/bulletins, leaflets, folders)
