Course Description & Objectives: 

Class Insecta: Classification of the (29?) orders, function, morphology. Cuticle structure and function, ventilation (gaseous exchange) feeding and digestion (i.e., habits and adaptations), Circulation (blood system), excretion and water balance, neuroendocrinology and introduction to the systems: endocrine organs, growth and moulting, phylogeny, systematics and identification of some pests and vectors, reproduction, locomotion, biotic associations, communications and behaviour

Learning Outcomes: 

By the end of the course students should be able to:

  • Differentiate the various groups of insects
  • Describe the generalized external and internal structure of an insect.
  • Describe the functions of the external and internal structures of an insect
